Annual Report/Informe Anual
2023
Welcome
2023 ushered in the opportunities to regroup not only with volunteers and participants - we also welcomed the opportunity to regroup as staff. As we embraced in-person gatherings again, we reinvigorated our services with new staffing and an expansion in service provision, outlined in this report.
We prioritized an ongoing commitment to collaborations that better honored survivor experiences and needs. This resulted in deepened relationships with medical providers and closely networked nonprofit organizations.
We invite you to learn more about our work in 2023 and thank you for your support and interest in our shared work of healing.

Living Our Theory of Change
Create a funding model that allows for experimentation & adaptive services
2023 found us engaged with different medical providers at UCSF, providing training & technical assistance to staff as well as counseling services to their participants. We are happy to deepen our work with medical providers, helping them feel more confident when supporting survivors of DV.
Embrace survivor centered approaches in our work
2023 brought with it opportunities to respond to shifting needs in the community. Based on the findings of last year’s participant survey, we amped up our counseling program for survivors of DV. With 1.5 additional staff, we have expanded our support group offerings to include DV and parenting, additional DV 101 groups, & in-person gatherings to build community.
Building value rich networks designed to address the interactions of violence
2023 provided us more opportunities to lean into our vision & community. Whether it be by speaking at press conferences, attending rallies or grounding ourselves in our collective liberation, we continue to deepen our connection to community. We amped up our reach via social media, increasing likes and followers, allowing us to share our messaging widely.
Support Line
Healing + Stabilization Counseling Programs
Latinx Program
direct services: 2023
Approximately 6,650 counseling calls were answered on our domestic violence support line. 1,200 information & referral calls were answered on our business line. As an extension of this work. over 92,000 searches were hosted on the Domestic Violence Information & Referral Center (DVIRC).
195 survivors of DV completed Healing + Stabilization Program intakes. Services include therapy, individual and group counseling, as well as immediate crisis support. Every survivor who completed an intake was offered an intake interview, involving referrals, safety planning & other supportive counseling services.
After an expansion of the Latinx Program, staff provided services to 55 Latinx survivors of DV. Services included one on one peer counseling, client advocacy, support group, leadership development & deepening community connection via Echando Pa’lante. Some participants also received 12 sessions of complementary therapy and EMDR. All Latinx Program services are offered in Spanish, by bi-lingual/bi-cultural staff.
Regrouping
In-Person Gatherings In 2023
The pandemic forced us to engage in remote connection with participants, volunteers and staff. 2023 was the right time to regroup in person; we started by reinstating our Hybrid Volunteer Training to its original form, with in-person meetings on Saturdays. It was so wonderful to meet in person again, that we extended these gatherings to include in-person volunteer meet-ups, and hosted a volunteer and staff mixer. Our longstanding Echando Pa’Lante group for Latinx participants returned to in-person meetings, and some support group participants enjoyed gathering in person for meals & conversation.
Podcast
We published 12 new episodes of our podcast in 2023, three of which are part of a collaborative series with SF DOSW and YCD. To date, we have featured episodes on DV in the LGBTQIA+ community and a Domestic Violence Awareness Month episode which shined a light on issues that intersect with DV.
Another episode provided examples of the transformative practices we have implemented at W.O.M.A.N., Inc.. These practices help us decenter law enforcement responses to DV.

Direct Service Participant Demographics*
We don’t sacrifice survivor comfort for statistics.
*We gather participant demographic information across programs. However, the most in-depth information is gathered via longer-term program intakes. The information presented here is taken from our counseling and Latinx Program intakes. Due to the crisis involved, & sometimes short duration of our interactions, gathering this information during support line calls can be difficult.
